Description
Phenolphthalein is usually dissolved in alcohol for use in experiments. It is a weak acid, which can lose H+ ions in solution. The phenolphthalein molecule is colorless, while the phenolphthalein ion is pink. In acidic and neutral solutions, the solution is colorless. When a base is added to the phenolphthalein, more ionization takes place, causing the solution to turn a red-violet color. This solution turns this pinkish color at pH 8.2–10.0.Specifications
